Born in Puerto Rico in 1984 to Cuban and Puerto Rican parents, Maldonado grew up in the San Juan metropolitan area. She moved to New York in 2006 where she continues to live and work. In 2008, she received her MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in New York. A year later she was awarded a fellowship to participate in the Vermont Studio Residency Program. Most recently, Maldonado has developed public art projects in collaboration with Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT; Graphopoli, An Urban Art Biennial at Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in San Juan; the Tenth Havana Biennial in Cuba; the Time Square Alliance in New York City; and El Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Puerto Rico. 

This upcoming May her work will be part of Beyond Bling, a group show based on artists that work with hip hop aesthetic, at the The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in Sarasota. And in June the broken-boards pieces will be feature at El Museo's Bienal: The (S) Files, in New York.
